He was one of the first New England television reporters on the scene following 9/11. He spent three weeks in New York City covering the horrific events and aftermath of 9/11. He also covered the Columbine School Shooting, one of the earliest mass school shootings in U.S. history, and reported on astronaut John Glenn’s historic return to space.

Passionate About His Work, Uncovering the Truth, Making a Difference

Derderian has made his mark on news reporting in major media markets, with an impeccable reputation for pursuing each assignment with integrity, empathy, and a relentless drive for the truth.

He is a freelance investigative reporter at WTNH-TV in New Haven, Connecticut, identifying compelling story ideas and reporting on them in the Hartford market. Derderian’s commitment to impactful journalism is evident in his recent Emmy-nominated piece, “How Technology Is Changing How Emergency Responders React,” which explores how real-time video technology revolutionizes 9-1-1 emergency response. This innovative technology, created by three former Yale students, is available to municipalities nationwide at no cost, with optional premium features offered for purchase. In his investigative report, Derderian explores how, although still in the early stages of adoption in Connecticut, the system holds tremendous promise to revolutionize emergency response. The Emmy Awards take place on June 7 in Boston, Massachusetts.

Derderian also gives voice to those who need it most through his storytelling and passion to inform, educate, and effect change. He uncovers the truth through diligent research, fact-checking, and verification, as well as his ability to weigh legal and ethical considerations, which has led to several new laws in Connecticut. For example, one of Jeff Derderian’s reports on the murder of a visiting nurse led to the introduction and passage of legislation to increase nurse and home healthcare safety.

He collaborates with WTNH-TV’s editorial team and contributes to the station’s on-air and digital properties to deliver exclusive stories and coverage. Derderian recently covered Ansonia’s Mayor David Casset’s apology for his controversial comments on Facebook. In addition, Derderian’s exclusive story on the “Connecticut Cannibal” was picked up by the New York Post.
